y the time Angela's eyes started to open slowly, she felt as if all the energy inside of her body had been drained; her eyelids fluttered before they completely opened up, and she looked around as her vision began to clear up. She came face-to-face with a marble-coated ceiling above, and as she didn't recognize where she was, she pushed her body up immediately; her brain was on high alert as she pushed her legs over the huge king-sized bed placed in the room.
both looked up to see who had entered the room.
May stared back at them as she entered the room. They looked over at her as if they were expecting some sort of an intruder.
She cleared her throat, and before Angela had the chance to say a word to her, David spoke first. Angela noticed the way the girl looked tired. Rims were placed around her eyes, and she seemed to have tied her short hair up. This was the first time she had seen May that way.
“What is it? Did the hospital call back?”
She nodded, and just like that, the anticipation began to grow in Angela's stomach. She shifted on the bed, eager to hear what the people from the hospital had said; everyone in the room was wide-eyed as they held their breath, and finally, after a short pause, May spoke.
"They're saying that the surgery went well, and they just called; they need us down there before he wakes up..."
Both David and May looked back at Angela with their eyes wide; she looked away from them, not knowing what to say. She didn't know if she should even be the one to say a thing when it came to Toby's matter. The guilt was still weighing on her. May cleared her throat and looked over at Angela, but before she had the chance to say anything, David spoke once again, catching their attention.
"I think it's best if May and I go for now. You just woke up, Angela, and it's best if you sit this one out...I'm sure you need all the rest that you can get as well."
May stayed quiet, and Angela looked away from them. She knew the real reason they didn't want her near him, and she felt the anxiety creeping up her chest as she spoke in a mere whisper.
"Yeah...I... I think it's for the best."
She watched as May gestured for David to join her, and soon enough, she was gone; before David left the room, he turned around to face Angela with a look of pity washing over his face. Angela hated it. The fact was that she was being treated as a child; she stayed quiet, and just as David was about to leave the room, he walked over to her and carefully placed a gentle kiss upon her forehead and whispered to her in a low tone.
"Hey....it's going to be okay. You'll get to see him, too; just give it time."
She gave him a nod; not wanting to worry him too much; she watched as he left, offering her a gentle smile on his way out. Soon enough, Angela was left alone in the room as she waited to hear something, anything from them. The thoughts that circled her mind were almost corrupting her ability to think clearly as she kept imagining the moment she allowed her finger to slip and push the trigger. She ran her hands through her hair as she wondered exactly how in the world she even let this happen.
Slowly anger started to burn in her mind. The old man's face appeared before her eyes once again, that proud smirk dancing upon the edge of his lips. Before she even knew it, her hands were curled into fists, and her knuckles had turned white with all the anger burning inside her body.
Her secrets were well on their way to spilling out as well.
