Chapter 4: Start a Hydroponics System as a Beginner

At this point, even if you are a beginner for the system of hydroponics, you should have an excellent idea about the basics of the hydroponics system. If you can start it with good knowledge, you will be able to maintain the best hydroponics system. So, let’s gather some more general knowledge about it. The more you know, the better you will do.

Select one of the systems: You have already learned about six hydroponics systems from reading this material. Obviously, you can’t start without choosing a method first. So from these systems, you need to choose any one of them first to begin. You should choose the system which is easiest for you to start. So, you should think about the systems mentioned and go with what you think would work best for you..

Select buckets or trays: When you have selected your most suitable method for starting a hydroponics system, select either buckets or trays in accordance to the system. Keep in mind the total quantity of your plants and how many plants you want to grow in one bucket or tray. You should use the buckets or trays according to the methods listed previously. But as a beginner, you should start small. Use less plants in the beginning until you get the hang of it. If you’re using a bucket system, you should choose a bucket that is 12 inches deep and 8 inches wide.

Purchase the plants: After that, purchase plants that are adapted to your zone and match the season you’re in. Warm season plants should be planted in a warm season, cool season plants should be planted cool season and the spring season plants should be purchased in the spring season.

Use the nutrients: You already know about the nutrients form what you have read so far, but you should use the nutrients properly; otherwise the plants will die. If you use too much, the plants will die as a side effects of the nutrients. Conversely, if don’t use enough, the plants will die from a lack of nutrients. An adequate amount will yield the best garden for you. If you have 5 gallons of water, you should add 8 ml KNO3, 18 ml MgSO4, 26 ml CaNO3, 2 ml KSO4 and 7 ml KH2PO4.

Make a water providing system: You know that for this system the water is one of the most important components, so you should make a water providing system to start your hydroponics system. You should set up a pump for providing water. This means you have to use pumps and pipes to produce water otherwise it will not be helpful for you to do the job properly.

Set up the lighting system: As with the previous steps, you should be attentive to detail when setting up the lighting system, as this will provide light to the plants like sunshine. Remember that you should use red and blue lights as those lights are best suited for this purpose. If you can’t use the lighting system, you will not be able to provide enough light to your plants and your plants will not grow as quickly. So for the earlier growth of your plants you should set up the lighting systems properly.

Plant the trees: After doing all the things above you can start planting the suitable trees. Plant the trees with enough distances between them, as the trees will grow and will be bigger with each passing day. You should plant the trees according to the methods mentioned previously. You should plant the trees carefully and you should take care of the plants properly.

As a beginner you can start your hydroponics system by following the steps you just read, but this process is only the basic idea.
