SUMMER DAY 1

Time for Self-Love

Our underappreciated feet take a real beating over the course of an average day, and we tend not to blink an eye at blisters, soreness, or swelling and stiffness in our toes, heels, and soles. To show your feet some extra care and feel whole-body benefits, try foot massage, a gratifying and underutilized self-care ritual. According to the teachings of reflexology, there are thousands of extremely sensitive nerve endings in our feet that, when stimulated by touch, affect our overall health and beauty in dramatic ways. Regardless of whether or not you can actually improve your digestion by touching the center sole of your foot (one of the point-to-point connections made in reflexology), simple foot massage can stimulate circulation and the nervous system, soften feet, and deeply relax the body. Keep your favorite cream or body oil at your bedside and massage your clean, dry soles in circular motions with your thumbs, in one direction and then the other, before you crawl into bed. You’ll certainly calm your mind, and your feet just may look more beautiful when you slip on heels or sandals again the next day.
