The act of drinking vinegar may sound like a middle-school dare, but in fact it can be a beautifying practice at any age. Apple cider vinegar (look for the raw, fermented kind) is a strongly alkaline food that helps to balance the pH of your body as well as lower inflammation and support healthy digestion, as it contains beneficial bacteria and increases the acidity of the stomach. Consuming apple cider vinegar also lowers blood-sugar levels (its acetic acid slows the digestion of carbs), making it a great tool for healthy aging and youthful skin. If you’re not keen on sipping it undiluted, add water and sometimes lemon or honey, or both, for a soothing beauty tonic, or splash in sparkling water for a fizzy, flavorful sip. I like to add it to homemade dressings to enjoy its beautifying benefits in a salad.
