The secret to this sculptural accessory? Key rings! Simple metal key rings from the hardware store are linked together in a cascading formation and then crocheted over with sparkly thread. The result is a statement piece that adds the perfect crafty touch to any outfit, from your favorite sweater and jeans to a little black dress. Get creative with color!

Shown here: Nazli Gelin Garden Metallic (99% Egyptian Giza Mercerized Cotton, 1% Metallic; 306 yd [280 m]/1.76 oz [50 g]): #702-20 Brown, #702-29 Blue and #702-34 Magenta, 1 ball each.
Size D-3 (3.25 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.
Eleven ¾" (19 mm) split key rings; ten 1" (25 mm) split key rings; nine 1¼" (32 mm) split key rings; seven 1½" (38 mm) split key rings; yarn needle; necklace clasp.
Gauge not important for this project.
Assemble key rings according to diagram.
Beg with any ring, cover each ring as follows: Make slipknot and place on hook, hold top of ring and insert hook through ring, yo pull up a loop, yo and pull through two loops on hook to create a sc. Gently tug working yarn to tighten stitch if needed. Continue to work sc as established until entire ring is covered.
Cover all rings using colors according to illustration or as desired.
Finishing
Weave in all ends and attach clasp to ends according to manufacturer’s instruction.
