Add some color to winter days with these bright and cheery mittens. Use your scrap yarn to work a random stripe sequence or keep it simple with fewer colors. Whether you make these mitts flamboyant or muted, their classic shape ensures that they will be the ones you reach for over and over again as you’re heading out the door.

Worsted weight (#4 Medium).

Right Mitten
Start stripe sequence and make an adjustable ring with A.
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as dc), 11 dc in ring, pull ring closed, sl st to top of t-ch—12 dc, do not turn, fasten off A and join B.
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), *(dc, FPdc) in next dc, dc in next dc; rep from * around to last dc, (dc, FPdc) in last dc, sl st to top of t-ch—18 dc, do not turn.

Sew buttons to opposite cuff opening.
THUMB
With RS facing, join A in corner of thumb opening.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 12 dc evenly around opening—13 dc, sl st to top of t-ch, do not turn. Fasten off A.
Rnd 2: Join F, ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each dc around, sl st to top of t-ch, do not turn. Fasten off F.
Rnd 3: Rep Rnd 2 with E.
