Ch (chain st)

Dc (double crochet)

*Yarn over hook, insert hook into a stitch, yarn over hook and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook; FIGURE 1), yarn over hook and draw it through 2 loops (FIGURE 2), yarn over hook and draw it through remaining 2 loops on hook (FIGURE 3). Repeat from *.

Tr (treble crochet)

*Wrap yarn around hook twice, insert hook into next indicated stitch, yarn over hook and draw up a loop (4 loops on hook; FIGURE 1), yarn over hook and draw it through 2 loops (FIGURE 2), yarn over hook and draw it through the next 2 loops, yarn over hook and draw it through the remaining 2 loops on hook (FIGURE 3). FPdc (Front Post double crochet)

Yarn over hook, insert hook from front to back to front again around post of stitch indicated, yarn over hook and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), [yarn over hook and draw through 2 loops on hook] twice—1 fpdc made.

BPdc (Back Post double crochet)

Yarn over hook, insert hook from back to front, to back again around the post of stitch indicated, yarn over hook, draw yarn through stitch, [yarn over hook, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook] twice.

Sc2tog (single crochet 2 together)

Insert hook into stitch and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next stitch and draw up a loop. Yarn over hook (FIGURE 1). Draw through all 3 loops on hook (FIGURES 2 AND 3).

Fsc (foundation single crochet)

Ch 2 (FIGURE 1), insert hook in 2nd ch from hook (FIGURE 2), yarn over hook and draw up a loop (2 loops on hook), yarn over hook, draw yarn through first loop on hook (FIGURE 3), yarn over hook and draw through 2 loops on hook (FIGURE 4)—1 fsc made (FIGURE 5).

Making an adjustable ring

Make a large loop with the yarn (FIGURE 1). Holding the loop with your fingers, insert hook into loop and pull working yarn through loop (FIGURE 2). Yarn over hook, pull through loop on hook.

Continue to work indicated number of stitches into loop (FIGURE 3; shown in single crochet). Pull on yarn tail to close loop (FIGURE 4).

Whipstitch seam

With right sides of work facing and working through edge stitches, bring threaded needle out from back to front, along edge of piece.
