AS WITH THE ABOVE DOLSOT and onggi, the siru is also a product of the earth, made with glazed and unglazed clay. It is a steamer for rice cakes and rice flour dishes, such as tteok (see Chapter 8). Historically, the siru was also used in ritual preparations of dishes for different celebrations.
