Sujeo (Utensils)

image

THIS TERM REFERS COLLECTIVELY to the long-handled metal spoon and metal chopsticks used at nearly every Korean meal.  Often, the sujeo set is carved with symbolic scenes of natural beauty, and elaborately carved sets were traditionally presented as wedding gifts.  For those accustomed to eating with Chinese or Japanese style wooden or lacquered chopsticks, using the flatter metal chopsticks of Korea are a challenge initially, but their distinctive style and beauty make the effort worth the while.
