CLOSURE

“When I said we would meet again, I wasn’t quite expecting it to be so soon.”

“Sorry to have disappointed you, Chief Inspector,” said Stark.

“Not at all. So what have we got? The body of your mother buried in the basement. A lawyer with a rifle and a broken neck. Another lawyer with a gunshot to the chest. And you. Quite a combination.”

“Where do I start?”

McGuigan raised a halting hand.

“Let me guess. It’s complicated?”

“You can read my mind.”

“A talent I haven’t yet mastered,” said McGuigan. “I can only hope that after this, you don’t go seeking any more trouble.”

“Wouldn’t dream of it, Chief Inspector.”
