About the Author

Robert Butera, MDiv, Ph.D., directs the YogaLife Institute in Wayne, Pennsylvania, where he trains teachers and leads seminars, online courses, and yoga and meditation retreats for the public. All of the programs YogaLife offers follow Dr. Butera’s self-published book, The Classical Yoga Study Guide. Dr. Butera is also publisher of the popular holistic magazine for the greater Philadelphia area, Yoga Living, a free publication that shares resources with the community about how to live a holistic lifestyle.

Dr. Butera is certified by The Yoga Institute in Mumbai, India, where he studied a non-sectarian style of classical yoga with Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra. His Ph.D. studies at The California Institute of Integral Studies focused on developing a yoga-based healing program for the immune system. Dr. Butera holds a Masters of Divinity from The Earlham School of Religion and has studied Buddhist psychotherapy, meditation, and personal growth in Japan, Taiwan, and India. He is certified as an E-RYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) from the Yoga Alliance, reserved for those with extensive teaching experience.

With more than twenty-five years of experience, Dr. Butera approaches his teaching with knowledge and passion. Emphasizing education and simple language in his courses, he teaches clients how to create a yoga practice based on their personal needs. It is a simple, yet transformative process that helps many students learn to live to their fullest potential.
