BEAUTY: BRAGGING RIGHTS: A beautiful sight
HOW EASY IS IT TO SEE? Best with binoculars or small telescope
BEST TIME TO SEE IT: Spring (in Cancer)
TYPE: Open Cluster DISCOVERED: Known since antiquity
Finding the beehive. To find it, draw an imaginary line between Regulus (the brightest star in Leo) and Pollux (the left star in the Gemini Twins). Somewhere around halfway you’ll see a little fuzzy mist.
A swarm of stars. Use binoculars to resolve the mist into a swarm of stars. The Beehive Cluster is more than two full moons across, so use low power to take it all in. This is one of the most beautiful open clusters in the sky, filled with bright stars, and large enough to view easily with binoculars.
