Editing or Deleting a Recording

It’s easy to edit or delete a recording. After all, even professional voice artists rarely get it perfect in the first take. When you open the book, tap the Edit button, and gray Edit buttons appear beneath all of your recordings. Tap the Edit button next to the recording you want to edit or record, and here’s what you can do:

• Edit Recording. Sends you to the first page of the book with the Re-record, Play, and Done buttons visible.

• Change Picture. Takes you to a window where you can choose a new picture for the recording.

  

• Change Name. Takes you to a window where you can choose a new name for the recording.

• Delete Recording. Deletes the recording, but not immediately. Instead, you’ll be asked whether you really, truly do want to delete it.

  

Up to Speed: Tips for Better Recording

When your kids hear you reading to them, you obviously want them to hear your voice as clearly as possible, instead of sounding as if you were talking into a tin can. So follow these tips, and they should hear you loud and clear:

• Speak slowly and distinctly. Most people talk too quickly when they record audio. Remember, this isn’t a race; it’s something you want your kids to enjoy.

• Practice reading each page a few times before recording it. That way, you’ll learn what words and syllables to emphasize, and what kind of emotion you want to put into your voice.

• Make sure there’s as little background noise as possible. Car horns and emergency sirens don’t make for the most pleasant listening experience.

• Hold your NOOK between a foot and a foot and a half from your face. That’s the optimum distance so that your voice will be recorded clearly with no distortion.

• Don’t cover the microphone with your fingers. The microphone is a small hole on the upper-right side of the NOOK, to the left of the sound jack. If you cover it up, your voice won’t be heard.
