MEMORANDUM CONCERNING OPERATIONAL INTENTIONS
1. The following infm was obtained by Col GS from Chief of Staff at 161430B Aug:
(i) 2 Cdn Inf Div to capture Falaise. West half of FALAISE is to be handed over to 12 Brit Corps who are to hold it against possible attacks from WEST and SW. Comd 2 Cdn Corps will be seeing Comd 12 Brit Corps and 2 Cdn Inf Div today and tying up details today of which he will infm us.
(ii) 4 Cdn Armd Div to reorg in present area.
(iii) 3 Cdn Inf Div to op in wedge to EAST of FALAISE
(iv) 1 Polish Armd Div to adv on axis JORT 02344 TRUN with intermediate bound along high ground VAUDELOGES.
(v) 1 Brit Corps to be directed on LISIEUX. It is not anticipated that 7 Brit Armd Div will be available to op in this thrust before 17 Aug.
(vi) 18 Cdn Armd C Regt. Comd 2 Cdn Corps has directed them to pass through 2 Cdn Inf Div in FALAISE as soon as clear, directed on an axis FALAISE–ARGENTAN. G Ops has informed Third US Army of this intention.
2. Bdys
(i) Inter-Army bdy with Second Army – no extension at present.
(ii) Inter-Corps bdy, 2 Cdn Corps with 1 Brit Corps – no extension beyond ST PIERRE SUR DIVES for present.
