AUTHOR’S NOTE

Some time back, I saw a meme going around social media: a drawing of two women in faux-antique dresses, wielding shovels. The caption read, “Real friends help you hide the bodies.”

It got me thinking: Who would I help?

My best childhood friends sprang to mind—not that they’d wind up in that situation. But if . . . I’d race right over, no questions asked. We’re formed by our earliest friendships.

What emerged from that meme was this novel about old friends, loyalty, and the corrosive power of dark secrets.

Jo and Dana are far from perfect. It’s easy to claim they’re bad people. And yet. The characters that materialized charmed and scared me.

I hope you enjoyed A Friend Indeed—my exploration of moral dilemmas, social disparity, and complex female friendships.
