I first visited Chicago just over ten years ago and was awed by the soaring
skyscrapers, stunning parks and wide waterways of the city. For Lori Anderson’s fourth adventure I wanted to do something a little different to the chase
stories of the first three books; something more contained, like a locked room
mystery. So when I had the idea for this story I immediately thought Chicago
would be the perfect setting – so thank you Chicago for being such a fabulous muse.
Although it’s the writer’s name on the cover, many people contribute to getting a story from idea to
finished book – it’s a real team effort. First a massive shout-out to my brilliant agent and
all-round great guy, Oli Munson, for his wise advice, expert guidance and
tireless enthusiasm. A huge thank-you to my wonderful editor and publisher,
Karen Sullivan and to the fabulously eagle-eyed editor, West Camel, who both
help me refine the story and polish it into the final version, and to
proofreader extraordinaire, Victoria Goldman. And big thanks to the whole of
Team Orenda – including the tirelessly working Cole Sullivan, Megan Robinson, Mark Swan,
Sophie Goodfellow and Anne Cater.
I’d like to thank the brilliant cheerleaders who are #TeamLori, and all of the
bloggers, reviewers and readers who’ve read, enjoyed and reviewed the books so far – I hope you like this one too!
To my family and friends for being so supportive and encouraging, a massive
thank-you for always being so fabulous, with a special shout-out to the
wonderful Andy, Susi, Helen, Marie, Caroline and Kirsten for listening to me
banging on about ideas, plots and characters for hour after hour – thank you a million times; you guys rock!
