Shutting the door to our suite, I turn around to see Fynn walking towards the hot tub, naked.
“So you’re back, and I see you got your private show together.” I joke with him. Uncharacteristically he glares at me. “Hey, what’s wrong?”
“It’s not like that with her. I didn’t plan it, it just happened. It’s not the job with her.” He looks back towards his room. “She makes me dream.”
Dream... something we don’t do often since dreams rarely come true. I wonder what it would be like to have someone who makes you dream, makes you want something better. “I’ll tell the guys to leave you the room.”
“You don’t have to do that,” a husky voice filled with hints of honey and spice says. I look up to see the woman Fynn had saved standing in the doorway to his room.
Fynn turns towards her, his eyes softening. “Akiyra, meet Tobis. My brother in all but blood.”
“Hi, Tobis.” She smiles at me.
“Hello, Akiyra. I’m glad to meet you, awake.” She blushes an endearing shade of pink. I can see what has drawn Fynn to her. “The guys and I don’t mind leaving the room to you.”
I watch as she bites her lip and the indecision on her face. Taking a chance, I walk towards her and take her hand. “Akiyra, truly, we don’t mind. You have something with Fynn, but that connection isn’t with us. For us to be here, it will just make you uncomfortable. Maybe some other time, when everyone is here we can spend time getting to know each other.”
My heart starts to tumble down that slippery slope as I see a play of emotions over her face. “You’re sure? I hate to put you all out.” She looks longingly at the tub, “But I am dying for a long soak after months in space.”
A tinge of jealousy pricks my heart as I think of the freedom she has to go where she wants, do what she wants. Quickly I shove it away, refusing to let it poison the night for any of us. This life we live is hard enough, jealousy and anger will just make it that much worse.
“Take your time. We have other things to occupy ourselves.” I turn to return to my room and then an idea strikes. Leaving our suite, I run down the back stairs to the kitchen and grab two glasses and a bottle of Chappers that Umbri keeps for the high rollers. Yeah, it will be added to my debt, but finding enjoyment in our lives can be few and far between. If I can make Fynn’s night that much better, I’ll do what I can. I know that if the tables were turned, he would do whatever he could to help me. It’s what brothers do.
Running back up to the suite, I knock on the door, opening it just a little way. “Room service. May I come in?”
A feminine giggle and Fynn’s “yes”, has me entering. The tub is full of bubbles so that I can just see Akiyra’s head.
“You look like your stuck in a cloud.” I laugh. “I have a present for you. Take your time, enjoy the night.” I pull the bottle and glasses from behind my back, setting them on the edge of the tub.
“Tobi-” Fynn starts to say but I shake my head, cutting him off.
“No. Enjoy tonight.” I smile, turning to return to my room. I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but sometimes tonight is all you have.
