First and foremost, the authors wish to acknowledge their debt to John Arthur Maney (1870–1935). Neither an Amsterdam native nor a professional photographer, he was the single most prolific and significant recorder of Amsterdam’s appearance in its industrial heyday. His works graced numerous local commercial and historical volumes and were the basis for many of the postcards in this collection. Our appreciation also extends to Montgomery County historian Kelly Yacobucci Farquhar and to Rebekah Collinsworth, our editor at Arcadia. Unless otherwise noted, all images are courtesy of Gerald R. Snyder.
