We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
ROMANS 12:6–8
Mountain roads tend to wind their way along. Only occasionally will they have a long straight stretch. The terrain, broken by steep slopes and curving valleys and ravines, just doesn’t lend itself to straight lines. The dramatic scenery and winding roads make for fun driving when the conditions are good. However, in bad weather, it’s a different story.
Some high mountain roads get so much snow that they are closed during the winter. It costs too much to remove the deep snow, and ice on the curves makes driving too hazardous anyway. In the spring, it takes a long time to clear these roads. Sometimes just a single lane width of snow is removed, usually by very large snow blowers mounted on heavy equipment. While the remaining snow is melting, cyclists have the road to themselves. Even after all the snow is gone and the highway opens for the season, longer vehicles may be prohibited because of the steep and winding nature of the route. Not every vehicle is suited for every road.
In a similar manner, not every believer can do every type of ministry. But just as every type of vehicle has a purpose, so each of us has been given a gift. Our challenge is to discover our gift and find ways to use it.
Dear Father, thank You for all that You have given me. Please guide me in how I serve You.
