HOME

The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

PSALM 18:2

What comes to mind when you imagine a home in the mountains? Maybe you picture a rustic log cabin with a wood stove and a spring out back for water. Or perhaps something more impressive, a grand lodge with soaring ceilings, huge fireplaces, big, chunky furniture, and wool throw blankets. Or perhaps your mind jumps to Europe, to a castle perched on a rocky outcropping so that it seems to grow out of the sheer stone cliffs like a fairy-tale palace. Or maybe you already live there, and you see it every day!

The Bible describes God Himself as our refuge and fortress. He is our dwelling place, our home. In Him we live and move and have our being. Surely there is no more secure place to be. And what a privilege to be invited to make our life in Him!

Scripture also offers us hope about our home in the world to come. Jesus told His disciples, “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” (John 14:2–3). Earthbound as we are, we cannot really know what that place is like. But we can trust our Lord that it will be all that we desire and more.

O Lord, thank You for the ways that You have provided a home for me, both physically and spiritually. Help me to nestle in at Your hearthside, secure in Your love and strength.
