MAGGIE BURNS FORMERLY MITCHELL. Any person having information of the whereabouts or fate of my wife, Maggie Burns, formerly a slave on the Gatewood Plantation near SunRise, Virginia, is urged to communicate with 1st Sergeant Jesse Burns, 23rd USCT, Camp Sam Houston, Galveston, Texas. Maggie Burns was sold south in the winter of 1861. She is a comely light-skinned mulatto of slight stature, twenty or twenty-one years of age, and, with God’s mercy, Maggie has a male child at her side.
