Part II

Johan—The Commoner

Is there anything like the first time you see the one you will love forever? I remember when I met my Jonathan on a fall day in Wooster, Ohio. I was an Amish girl, and he was, well; he was so different from anyone I had ever known. But from the moment I looked into his eyes, I was his, only and forever.

And so it must have been for Isabella the first time she saw Johan. She was a princess—she traveled in the elite circles of the ruling class of Europe. Her father was king of the great country of Poland. Johan was a simple lad dressed in plain clothes who, though matured beyond his years by hard work and difficult circumstances, was still a commoner. But none of that mattered the day Isabella first looked into the eyes that captured her heart.
