Justin went to China and proudly failed to get a trade deal. (Apparently, his admiration for China’s basic dictatorship did not sway them, nor did his years backpacking in Asia. Go figure.) On the flight back, though, something incredible happened, even more so because it was noted only in passing.

As Steven Chase from the Globe and Mail reported:

Justin Trudeau offered to talk to media on the plane home from China to give them inside scoop on his trip but only if journalists gave their solemn word not to report any of what PM told us.

Chase admits that he was tempted by Justin’s offer, calling it “enticing,” but in the end decided not to. Others in the press gallery were not so reticent, however, and they happily took part in a secret briefing. As Chase noted, it was a difficult choice “forced on us: Learn things you are forbidden to report—or walk away.”

Remember when Justin criticized the Conservatives for being all secretive? Remember how he promised a new era of transparency? Glad those days are behind us! Yay journalistic integrity!
