It’s true there are refunds and rebates available, but I can assure you low-income families struggle with taxes, just like everyone else. Consumer taxes, in particular—sales taxes, carbon taxes, fuel surcharges, etc.—put a disproportionately larger burden on lower-income families than they do on the wealthy. You know, the type of people who can’t afford offshore tax havens in the Cayman Islands. Then there was the transit tax credit for bus passes and the like, which did help lower-income students, the elderly, disabled people, etc. Justin cancelled that one.
