A GENTLEMAN GETS
DRESSED FOR A
NIGHT ON THE TOWN
On some evenings, a gentleman does not know where the night will lead him. On such evenings, he thinks ahead, considering the friends with whom he will be traveling and the spots they are likely to frequent.
Unless he has heard that his group may drop in at a dignified social event, a gentleman is wise to stick with a quiet, classic getup (a polo shirt or white oxford-cloth button-down, with jeans or simple slacks and a blazer or dark sports coat).
If the evening’s agenda includes a party with a specific dress code (be it black tie or cocktail), a gentleman sticks to that dress code, explaining, as the evening progresses, why he is dressed inappropriately at that particular moment.
If a gentleman is not willing to make such explanations, he stays home.
