ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

While it’s true that not every book has two or more authors, every book is an act of collaboration, and it’s a great joy to thank our many collaborators.

To that end, we’d like to begin by thanking our wives, Mary and Heather, both of whom provided love, support, and crucial insights as we labored away on chapter after chapter. This book would not be possible without their voices. Cameron would like to thank his son, Dylan, for the frequent interruptions to “give Daddy a hug” as he sat scratching his head in front of the computer monitor in a makeshift home office during a time of extended quarantine. Those sweet intrusions put flesh and bones on sections that occasionally threatened to become abstract. The arrival of Cameron’s daughter, Olivia, two months before the manuscript deadline added a whole new level of joyful urgency to the writing process.

We would like to thank Krin Baer for stimulating conversations, incisive questions, and for poring over large portions of the manuscript. Cameron’s chapters especially would not be what they are without his friendship (and Cameron bears full responsibility for whatever defects remain). We would also like to thank our editor, Ethan McCarthy. It’s a rare (and sometimes painful) privilege to have a close friend as an editor, and Ethan proved an invaluable (and gentle) voice in the shaping of this book.

Our heartfelt thanks also to the wonderful team at InterVarsity Press, who allowed us to make our debut with this book. Equal parts professional and generous, it was a pleasure to work with them.
