I conceived of this story in mid-2019. I’d set the draft of Every New Year aside and was determined not to think about it. And I didn’t! I thought about Miles and Mei instead. I knew when I decided they should be divorced that I wanted to write them finding one another again, and I was all set to, and then lots of things happened, including a global pandemic. So, I set this story aside for months and came back to it in late 2020. I didn’t finish it then for lots of non-COVID reasons, but a big COVID-sized hole had, of course, presented itself, and I’m addressing it here. There is no pandemic in this story. Miles and Mei fall in love again in a world where there is no pandemic because they deserve to fall in love without one more thing standing in their way. I hope you enjoy watching these two get the chance to love one another again in this alternate universe.
