Day 9

The Law of Silence

When you read the title of this chapter, perhaps you’ll think that I shouldn’t have to say anything about it! There would be some wisdom in that, but I do have a few things to tell you.

Imagine what would happen if you sat for 15 or 30 minutes (or longer) in pure silence—no distractions other than natural sounds in the environment. When you do so, your brain chatter can begin to diminish. Suddenly, clear thoughts are able to enter your mind, and solutions to unsolved problems may surface. In fact, some of the great accomplishments of human genius have been birthed in moments of silence.

This is the value of meditation, which is often misunderstood as some complicated or difficult ritual. It can be, but it can also be as simple as spending some time (however brief) in quietude to allow your mind to stop fussing over trivialities. You can do this sitting up or lying down, before or after dinner or lunch, but do find a time and place for such meditation or contemplation, a time when you simply remain in pure silence.

Every year or two, I conduct a seminar called “Four Days of Wisdom.” I invite people from all over the world to come and be with me in silence. I’m often asked, “Why would someone come all the way around the globe to be quiet?” They do it because extraordinary experiences occur. Some attendees have said they’ve awakened a telepathic-like ability that allows them to communicate without words—that is, they started to read other people’s minds. Others have claimed that they solved previously irreconcilable problems in their lives. Still others finally became clear about their mission and the direction of their lives.

When we’re not talking and are truly present, we do awaken some amazing capacities. Our great minds suddenly link together, similar to a mastermind, and we start to pick up on each other’s thoughts. This is powerful, because we can begin to tune in (through our intention) to almost anyone. We somehow start thinking and feeling what they are.

I encourage you to sit still, enter a state of gratitude, and contemplate for at least 15 minutes in total silence every day. Have paper and pencil ready to record any inspiring revelations or dreams that emerge.

One of my daily rituals is to enter into a state of thankfulness by counting my blessings and thinking about all the experiences or accomplishments that I truly appreciate in my life. Then I sit in silence and ask, “Universal Source of All Existence, do you have a message for me today?”

And in such moments of silence comes a whispering voice from the innermost source of my mind that answers, “Yes! Do this.”

Silence is potent: It allows you to tune in to your intuition and guiding inspiration and provides solutions to problems. Give yourself this gift. The Law of Silence will take you to greater heights than you may have imagined. It’s one of the secret powers you have as a human being, so be silent!

WORDS OF POWER

In the silence of my heart, I know who I am and what I am here to do.
Every day my soul speaks to my heart in silence,
and I listen to its wisdom.
I take time every day to listen deeply to my soul in silence.
I am silent. I am grateful. I am present.
I sit for 15 to 30 minutes a day in silent gratitude.
I remain silent and poised.
My silence is enlightening and helps me fulfill my dreams.
