Although some of my father’s Vietnam stories were told to me in passing, years ago, many of them were also recorded in taped interviews that I conducted with him. I have reproduced these stories as accurately as possible. In order to spare the feelings of acquaintances, I have changed the names and physical characteristics of minor characters. The names of major characters have not been changed.
