JAMES E. WISE JR., became a naval aviator in 1953 following graduation from Northwestern University. He served as an intelligence officer aboard USS America (CVA-66) and later as the commanding officer of various naval intelligence units.
Since his retirement from the Navy in 1975 as a captain, Wise has held several senior executive posts in private sector companies. In addition to Stars in Blue: Movie Actors in America’s Sea Services, Stars in the Corps: Movie Actors in the United States Marines, and Stars in Khaki: Movie Stars in the Army and the Air Services, he coauthored International Stars at War and Soldiers Lost at Sea with Scott Baron. Additionally, he coauthored Shooting the War: The Memoir and Photographs of a U-Boat Officer in World War II with Otto Giese. He is also the author of many articles published in naval and maritime journals. He lives in Alexandria, Virginia.
SCOTT BARON served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He has a BA in constitutional law/criminal procedures from California State University—Northridge and a master’s in teaching from Chapman University. He worked for more than a decade in law enforcement and taught at the Police Academy and at a community college in Aptos, California. He currently lives on the California coast and teaches U.S. history in Salinas.
Baron is the author of They Also Served: Military Biographies of Uncommon Americans, as well as International Stars at War and Soldiers Lost at Sea, both with James Wise. Baron has also written articles for Stars and Stripes, GI Jobs, and Military.com.
