Hi, I'm the author of this book, and I hope you liked it. As a former journalist, I wanted a reporter protagonist who could solve problems. Mac came into being, based on my reporting experiences as well as others, coupled with the military experiences of a former student turned journalist. This is the fifth book in the series. You can find the earlier books at your favorite e-book retailer.
So, in true thriller fashion, this is over the top — as Mac Davis thrillers are. But Mac has changed over the course of the last few books. The Mac Davis of book 1, Trust No One, would be the new capo — or heir apparent — of the Del Toro cartel. He would have beaten the crap out of Chuy Del Toro on day one. Probably taken on Mateo simply because he had a burning need to know he was the stronger of the two. But, as Mac puts it, they waited too long to bring him back into the fold. But it was a near thing. And to be honest, I wasn’t sure how it would all turn out. I’ve considered writing an alternative ending — but that would have been a dead end for Mac. And so Mac came home.
(Would you like to read that ending? Sign up for my newsletter below and let me know. I might write it if there’s enough interest. Just for us.)
So what’s next for Mac? Book 6, One Big Lie, will be out in Spring 2024. There’s a cover preview at the end of this book, and you can pre-order it now. Is it weird for an old girlfriend to show up in your office conference room in tears? Kate Fairchild has a problem, and she doesn’t know who to turn to — so she comes to Mac. It doesn’t seem like much of a request, just a bit of research....
If you liked the book, please write a review at your favorite e-book retailer. Or put in a good word for the book on your Facebook page or other social media site. E-publishing works because people sing out when they find books they like. Reviews don't have to be lengthy. Two lines about what you thought will be much appreciated.
I have more books! There’s a list at the end of this book — you can see what ones you might have missed. Look for them at your favorite e-book retailer. And sign up for my newsletter, Telling Stories to get the first announcement of future books, and other things — like that alternative ending.... There’s a free Mac Davis short story as a signing bonus.
Thanks again for reading.
