About 826 National
Founded in 2002, 826 National is a nationwide network of nonprofit writing and tutoring centers that provides students, ages 6–18, with opportunities to explore their creativity and improve their writing skills. From after-school homework help to innovative writing workshops and in-schools publishing projects, 826 programs are offered for free and are rooted in the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention, and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. During the 2010–2011 school year, 826 centers—located in San Francisco, New York, Ann Arbor, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Washington, DC—served nearly 30,000 students from under-resourced communities and schools.
