Lavender

Lavender is a favorite for many due to its beautiful aroma, color, and reputation for promoting relaxation. This simple stem comes together in just minutes, so you can make lots of these—I think more is better when it comes to lavender! Add a drop or two of lavender essential oil to each stem to take them to the next level.

SUPPLIES

Sage green felt

1˝ × 6˝ strip of purple felt

18˝ of 18-gauge floral wire

Lavender calyx and leaf template

Scissors

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

STEP 1: Cut the pieces. Follow the lavender template to cut out two green leaves and a small calyx.

STEP 2: Fold the felt. Apply a small line of glue along one of the long edges of the felt strip. Fold the felt in half lengthwise, pressing the edges together. Continue adding glue and folding the felt in sections until you reach the end.

STEP 3: Cut the felt. Cut slits in the folded edge of the felt, cutting about halfway to two-thirds across the strip. Be careful not to cut all the way through the strip.

STEP 4: Attach the felt. Put a small drop of glue on one end of the felt strip along the bottom (uncut) edge and fold it around the top of the wire.

STEP 5: Wrap the wire. Wrap the felt around the wire, gluing as you go. It’s easiest to work in 1˝ to 2˝ sections at a time. Try to keep the felt pulled tight as your wrap to keep it smooth.

STEP 6: Attach the calyx and leaves. Cut a slit in the center of the calyx and slide it up the stem. Add glue to each section of the calyx and press it against the bottom of the bloom. Add a small dot of glue to the bottom of a leaf. Pinch it in place around the wire about 1˝ below the flower. Add the second leaf about 1˝ below the first on the other side of the wire.
