The March 11, 1981, mishap actually relates to a 6513th TS, Red Hats, mishap and has been included in the 4477th TES history in error. This is the mishap that involved George Mullner, then Operations Officer at the Red Hats, but soon to be commander of the squadron.

APPENDIX B

BANDIT NUMBERS AND SORTIE NUMBERS

This list is taken from a classified official history that has not survived. This was the only unclassified page in the document. It is reproduced here word-for-word, which means that there are inconsistencies with the spelling of some names included in the main text. Where a difference occurs, the main text should be used as the definitive source. Blank spaces for Bandits 1–7 and 9 show that the sortie count was redacted on the copy provided to the author. This is because these sorties were flown as part of HAVE IDEA, HAVE GLIB, and other HAVE exploitation programs prior to the official first 4477th TEF sorties at TTR. Note that there are no Su-7/17 sorties listed, and that the MiG-23 sorties from at least one of the final Red Eagles pilots are not listed.

The final 4477th TES flying schedule. (Mike Scott via Steve Davies)

The FTD ran a Soviet Indoctrination week at Bolling AFB, Washington, for Air Force pilots. As part of that course, the pilots could enter a secure hangar in which was stored a static MiG-21F-13 from Indonesia. Noteworthy is the use of the Red Eagles’ logo on the bottom left of the certificate. (Author’s collection)
