The head office of Bakshi Pharma was a state-of-the-art, seven-storeyed building in Bandra-Kurla Complex, popularly known as BKC. Over the last decade, BKC had replaced the south Mumbai area of Nariman Point as the commercial hub of the city.
Aditya and Meera were seated in the opulent reception area, waiting for Pratap Chauhan, the executive director of the company as well as acting CEO in Tanvi’s absence. Aditya was thumbing through the pages of the latest issue of Business Today. The cover story was on Bakshi Pharma, and featured an interview with Pratap Chauhan. The article also had a file photo of a beaming Dev Bakshi, with his beautiful daughter, Tanvi. ‘In safe hands’, read the caption below the photograph.
Aditya pointed out to a sub-heading in the article: “Bakshi Pharma valued at rupees 2,000 crores’. Meera let out a soft whistle.
‘What else did Rohit tell you about Pratap Chauhan?’ Aditya asked. He had instructed Meera to speak with Rohit to get some background on the company, which she had done that morning.
‘He said that Pratap Chauhan started his career with the company, and was Dev Bakshi’s most trusted aide,’ Meera replied. ‘Chauhan has been like a father-figure to Tanvi after Bakshi passed away and has been running the company since she became unwell.’
Just then, a young woman in a business suit came up to them. ‘Mr Sachdev and Ms Dixit, Mr Chauhan will see you now. Please follow me.’
