It sickened Sheriff Riley that someone from Bear Corner had been killing women right under his nose. With Carl Ledet dead they might never know the names of his victims, or what happened to Misty Olivier and Sally Dawson. Dr. Bendell and his team were working on identifying the bodies but so far they had had no luck.
A thorough inspection of the boat and house uncovered a journal of sorts that he had kept over the years. There were over one hundred entries of “souls having been cleansed”.
Sheriff Riley prayed that there weren’t one hundred bodies lying in a watery grave. Unfortunately, it was unlikely that they would recover any more bodies than they already had. The divers hadn’t found any more remains and it would take too much manpower to continue the search.
According to the journals these women were who he considered sinners, mainly prostitutes who walked the streets of New Orleans. He focused mainly on women who wouldn’t be missed if they disappeared. That was except for Caroline Guilliot’s sister. Because of Michelle’s unrelenting insistence, DNA results acknowledged her worst fears; the unidentified body found floating in the bayou was that of her sister.
Michelle chose to cremate her sister and scatter her ashes along the marsh land. She also decided to rent a house here and work from Bear Corner for a while, hoping to come to terms with her sister’s violent and tragic death.
And then there were the recent disappearances here of Misty Olivier and Sally Dawson. Their families may never know what happened to them.
