Chad did not sleep well again last night. He couldn’t remember the last good night's sleep he had had. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw Mia’s lifeless body in his arms. That fateful night kept replaying in his mind. He continuously relived that horrific moment of seeing her lying there in her own pool of blood. If only they had put together the clues sooner.
It brought him little comfort knowing that Carl Ledet was dead. He reached over and brought her body closer to him. Feeling her lying next to him was the only thing that helped ease the hate away. He could never erase that atrocious night out of his mind, but he breathed a little easier knowing she was here with him. He didn’t know if he would ever be able to let her out of his sight.
He still remembered walking into the hospital waiting to hear if she had died in the ambulance on her way in. His world came crashing down on him when he heard the ER doctor say she was flat lining, but Mia had enough fight left in her. After finding the knife had nicked her spleen, she was rushed into surgery.
That was the worst experience he had ever had to live through. And he hoped he never went through anything like that again. As soon as the surgeon came in the waiting room and told them Mia was critical but stable, Chad went out and purchased an engagement ring. He knew he could not live without her in his life.
Mia was in the hospital for over a week. She complied with her parents' wishes and moved in with them for a few weeks to recover. The night she moved back to her house he proposed. They married a month later, neither wanting to waste any more time. They both learned the hard way just how short life was.
Chad couldn’t be happier. He was getting a chance to spend the rest of his life with the woman he loved and maybe someday they would welcome a baby into this world. Right now he was just happy to enjoy this time with his new wife.
