The eagle

his splendid habit

absolute shade.

The original manna-giver above the sky in the exodus.

What breathes in beloved islands.

The eagle shut up inside the heart.

The eagle spreadeagled and consummated

in knotted brows of the fatherland.

And that fixed and far-off unalloyed wretchedness

that intuits God's fringes, my rags and God's

and this so unfettered and solitary that spreads itself out in

the night.
