peach-berry slump

prep: 15 minutes | bake: 1 hour 15 minutes at 350°F | MAKES: 8 servings

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. In a medium bowl stir together the first five ingredients (through salt). Add milk, butter, and vanilla; stir just until combined. Set batter aside.

2. In an oven-safe 4- to 5-qt. pot combine the water and the ½ cup sugar. Cook and stir over medium-high heat until sugar dissolves. Pour into a glass measuring cup. Add peaches and berries to the pot; Spread batter evenly over fruit (it may not completely cover fruit). Drizzle sugar-water over batter.

3. Bake, uncovered, 75 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool slightly. Serve warm. If desired, top with ice cream.
