SECRET NOT SECRET

Dear Reader of this letter,

Whoever you are

I’ve got a secret that nobody knows

Exceptin’ me, them, and some other folk

To the world, I live (in a box) for fame

In the dark and shadows, I am the flame

Maybe I’ll tell my secret aloud

Or maybe the secret will tell on me, child,

Known or unknown, we all are grown

Doing grown-people things, you know     what I’m sayin’,

Will they accept me if my secret is found

Or will they bury my truth with me in the ground

Only time will tell, or will I—

The secret of “sin,” a public life of lies

Whoever you are,

Dear Reader of this letter

Can you keep my secret?
