AROUND THE HOME

Lemons can be used in many ways around the home, due to the antibacterial properties of the juice and the natural oils in the peel – here are a few ideas.

LAUNDRY

Adding a teaspoon of lemon juice to your wash can make your clothes smell fresher and your whites whiter, while lemon juice can be used to remove stains. Let the juice dry on the stain before washing out.

MOTHS

Dried lemon peel can be hung in your cupboards to keep moths at bay and protect your clothes, for a chemical-free solution to an age-old problem.

FIRELIGHTERS

The natural oils in lemon peel make them good to use as firelighters. Dry the peels out in the oven at a low temperature until they harden.

CLEANING

Remove stains from chopping boards and freshen them up by rubbing them with lemon juice. You can also use lemons as a limescale remover. Cut a lemon up and place it on limescale stains for an hour, then scrub off.

MIRRORS

You can also clean mirrors by adding the juice of half a lemon to 4 litres of water and wiping the mirror with a cloth. Or you can simply apply the juice directly to any stubborn stains.
