Epilogue

Five years later.

She was mad. Spitting mad. Kick anything that got in the way of her booted foot mad.

Her curly red hair and clear blue eyes may have been concealed under that Stetson on her head, along with the dusting of freckles across her cheeks, but Payton would have bet his last dollar that those blue eyes were flashing fire as she stalked across the gravel drive and headed toward the barn.

A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth as he watched her from the open loft window. Working his way across the loft, he moved down the steps and scooped up three-year-old Callie as she stalked into the barn, fiery mad.

“Who’s got your temper flaring this morning?” he asked, with a grin.

“Uncle Kevin,” she huffed, her blue eyes flashing fire. “He said I’m not big enough to ride a horse. Tell him, Daddy. Tell him I am too big enough to ride a horse!”

“Of course you are, sweetheart,” Payton said, concealing a grin as he hugged her close and headed across the yard toward the kitchen door.

Inside, Payton lowered Callie to the floor and reached to shake Kevin’s hand.

“Welcome home, Kevin,” Payton said. “How’s college?”

“It’s going great” Kevin smiled, then scooped up Callie and tickled her tummy, her giggles filling the room.

“Something smells good, Mrs. Bolin,” Payton said, crossing the kitchen. “Where’s Randi?”

“She’s in the living room,” Mrs. Bolin answered, with a smile.

Payton moved into the living room, spotting Randi on the sofa. “Hey, pretty lady,” he smiled, sitting down beside her and gently laying his hand on her eight-month-pregnant stomach.

“How’s our little cowboy today?” he asked.

“He’s doing great,” Randi answered, then smiled as the baby moved and Payton’s gray eyes lit up.

“Do you know how incredibly sexy and beautiful you are, carrying my baby?” he asked softly.

With eyes as blue as the Texas sky, Randi smiled up at him.

Payton couldn’t stop himself—he just had to kiss her.
