MATERIALS

• 1⁄4 yard white-and-black print (light background) for pieced background

• 1⁄8 yard black print for pieced background

• 1⁄8 yard total assorted brights for appliqué

• 3⁄4 yard for backing and binding

• 1⁄4 yard paper-backed fusible web

• 20˝ × 16˝ batting

CUTTING

Cut from white-and-black print (light background):

• 1 rectangle 81⁄2˝ × 161⁄2˝

Cut from black print:

• 2 rectangles 21⁄2˝ × 161⁄2˝

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

PIECING

Piece the background as shown. Press.

APPLIQUÉING

1. Cut and prepare 64 of appliqué piece 1.

2. Appliqué the pieces to the background to form the place mat.

FINISHING

1. Layer the place mat with the batting and backing. Baste or pin.

2. Quilt as desired and bind.
