When you make a cup of matcha tea, you are not steeping the leaves but rather dissolving them in water and drinking the tea itself, not an infusion. When buying, seek out matcha powder imported from Japan to ensure the best quality.
Pour the matcha powder through a tea strainer (to keep any clumps from forming) into a tea bowl, then add ¼ cup hot water (just short of boiling). With a special bamboo whisk used just for matcha (called a chasen) or a frother or small whisk, whisk the water with the tea until it is foamy on top. Enjoy immediately.
