MARK RAVIN RAMPRAKASH
Born 5 September 1969 in Bushey, Hertfordshire
Middlesex 1987–2000, Surrey 2001–present
Tests: 52 (1991 to 2001–02)
One-day internationals: 18 (1991 to 2001–02)
Cricket Writers’ Club Young Cricketer of the Year 1991
PCA Cricketer of the Year 2006
Wisden Cricketer of the Year 2007
In 2006, Mark Ramprakash became the first cricketer to score 2,000 runs in twenty first-class innings (beating the previous record of twenty-one innings, set by Don Bradman in 1938 and Graham Gooch in 1990), the first to make scores of 150 in each of five successive first-class matches (eclipsing the previous record of four set by Vijay Merchant in India in 1941–42), and the first to reach double figures in each of his twenty-four first-class innings in an English season. His first-class average of 103.54 was also the highest by an English player in a home season, beating Geoff Boycott’s 102.53 in 1979.
In 2007, Ramprakash topped 2,000 first-class runs and averaged more than 100 for the second successive season, the first player to do so in consecutive English summers. His 2,026 runs (at 101.30) was also a remarkable 30.02 per cent of all Surrey’s runs from the bat (out of 6,747), a record for all counties, beating Graeme Hick’s 28.96 per cent for Worcestershire in 1988. The previous Surrey record was Tom Hayward’s 23.98 per cent in 1906.
THE HUNDRED HUNDREDS’ CLUB
Mark Ramprakash was at equal 16th place on the list of those in the Hundred Hundreds’ Club when this book went to press, with 108 first-class hundreds.
‘I am very proud of the fact that my name is now in such an exclusive list of some of the true greats of the game,’ he said. ‘In fact, all the names on this list are legends of cricket and are synonymous with great cricketing achievement. I cannot claim to have been as successful at international level as a lot of the other 24 players who have scored a hundred hundreds, or more, but I am honoured to be classified among them. As for Jack Hobbs scoring 98 of his hundreds after the age of 40 . . . well, that is something which I imagine will be a bit beyond me!’

Ramprakash is the fifth Surrey batsman to score 100 first-class hundreds, following Tom Hayward, Jack Hobbs, Andy Sandham and John Edrich.
THE HUNDRED HUNDREDS
After completing his hundredth first-class hundred, at 4.12 p.m. on Saturday, 2 August 2008, with a four cut away off David Wainwright, the slow left-arm spinner, Ramprakash put the fact that ten innings had passed since his 99th century down to the loss of his favourite bat. ‘After scoring the 99th at Hove, I broke the bat I’d been using for the past two years,’ he said. ‘I’ve used five bats since and I’ve not played that well.’
