ABOUT THE AUTHORS

ALISSA SEGERSTEN received her bachelor of science in nutrition from Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington. She is the previous owner of a personal chef business in Seattle, Washington, through which she successfully addressed the health and lifestyle needs of many families with her delicious, healthy cooking. She is a full-time mother to her five children and enjoys organic gardening, food preservation, wild-harvesting food, and hiking in the mountains with her family. She is currently a cooking instructor through her live classes and online programs, empowering people with cooking skills and knowledge of whole foods so that they may reconnect with the pleasure in eating delicious, nourishing food. Her popular recipe blog, NourishingMeals.com, is filled with healthy, wholesome, gluten-free recipes.

TOM MALTERRE MS, CN, holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in nutrition from Bastyr University, has advanced training from the Institute for Functional Medicine, and has over a decade of clinical experience. Tom is a current faculty member of the Autism Research Institute and was a medical affairs member of Thorne Research. He has lectured on nutrition and supplementation across the United States and Canada. He currently coaches doctors and other health-care practitioners on Functional Medicine protocols in his Progressive Practitioner Coaching Programs, while doing interviews and blogging on a vast array of health topics. When he is not seeing clients or contemplating nutritional sciences, he can be found out in nature with his five children, wild-harvesting native plants, practicing archery, hiking, camping, and rock climbing.
