Nicola loved flowers but most of all, she liked picking them to make lovely posies for her mother. One spring day, Nicola went to pick some daffodils in the garden.
She tugged and tugged, but couldn’t pick the flower.
«Ouch!»
«Who said that?» asked Nicola.
«I did, silly!» said the flower.
«Why do you want to pick me?»
«You’ll look lovely in a vase in the middle of the table,» replied Nicola.
«But I will only be lovely for a day.
If you leave me in the ground, you can look at me for weeks!»
«I never thought of that,» said Nicola.
So every day, she went to see the daffodils in the garden. She even watered them and removed the wilted leaves.
