“Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.”

— 1 Chronicles 28:20

Press On with Courage

Sometimes the job God asks us to do looks enormous. The size of a task — if stared at long enough — can cause fear or discouragement to grip the heart. But if we remember that God — the Creator of the whole universe — is with us, then fear loses its power.

Katie had prayed a long time before she took the job as junior counselor at summer camp. But when she arrived, she found she was in charge of six homesick little girls. They cried, wouldn’t talk, and wanted to leave. Katie stepped outside the cabin, gazed up at the stars, and prayed hard. She was scared at the size of her job. However, a couple of minutes into her prayer, a peace settled over Katie’s heart. She knew God was with her. He wouldn’t fail her or leave her on her own. She went back inside the cabin, got the lonely girls into sleeping bags, and chose this verse for their bedtime devotions: “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might” (Ephesians 6:10 NKJV).

No matter how big your task is, take heart. God won’t leave you to handle it alone.
