“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
— Matthew 5:6
What are you in the mood for right now? Domino’s Pizza? Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream? Your mom’s double chocolate brownies? Let your mouth water. Can you almost taste and smell it? Getting pretty hungry?
Now imagine being that eager to understand what God wants you to do. Think of wanting to do the right thing so much you can almost taste it. Maybe you do feel that way. There might be something you’d give a lot to be able to change — like being nicer to your sister or treating that handicapped girl more like a friend. You’ve tried on your own and you just can’t do it, and you SO want to because you love God.
Letting God come in to work that change in you will be like finally biting into that cheese-dripping slice with pepperoni or taking the first lick from that double cone. However close you feel to God right now (even if it’s, uh, like you’re in a separate universe), go to a quiet place, get still, and ask God to bring you closer. Ask the way you beg your mom to stop at Baskin-Robbins — only times one hundred. The asking might make you feel like God’s nearer all by itself.
