“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise — in God I trust.”

— Psalm 56:3 – 4

Your Personal Protector

Worries and fears can whisper in your head. It’s completely normal to feel anxious when you’re having trouble with a subject at school or when your best friend isn’t acting so much like a friend. It’s also normal to get upset when you hear about crimes on the news or your parents having a (loud) disagreement. God made us with a built-in system for alerting us to danger. It’s that dry mouth, sweaty palms, butterflies-in-the-stomach feeling you get that spurs you on to either run away or fight back.

It helps to go to someone you feel safe with and talk it out or just get a hug, but that someone might not always be available — like if you wake up frightened in the middle of the night or you’re staring, frozen, at your math test in the middle of class.

God is always, always there as your Personal Protector. You can close your eyes and breathe him slowly in, calm yourself in the knowledge that he is right inside you with protection from your fears. Nothing can come between you and him, not even your worst nightmare!
